Monday Night Movies

1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at 6 pm

The Norelius Community Library will show a new-release DVD, Monday, January 4 at 6 p.m. The selection is an animated Disney movie with a PG rating.

The movies are shown on the new projection screen in the first floor commons area.

Now you can check out audiobooks from your home or office with a valid library card!

As part of the WILBOR consortium, the Norelius Community Library offers audiobooks for its patrons to download and listen to.

Your library card is the “key” to downloading the audiobooks from any computer that is connected to the Internet, at any hour of the day or night.

You can browse or search for a title you’d like to listen to, log in with your library card number, and download the title to your computer. You can then listen to the book on your computer, or transfer to an mp3 player to listen. You don’t have to come to the library building to check out the audiobook, and you don’t have to return it. The book automatically “returns” to the collection for someone else to borrow.

WILBOR's collection has fiction and nonfiction titles, as well as books for children and teens. Bestsellers and classics, history and humor, business and self help—you'll find them all in WILBOR.

Books will check out for 1 week and the file will "expire" on your computer after 1 week, but when the books are transferred to a portable player you can listen to them at your leisure. Some titles can even be burned to CDs for your personal use.

Rearranging at the Library

Those of you who visit us in person will notice some changes. We are in the process of moving the nonfiction shelving to the west half of the main library. The computer lab will remain in the present location. The round tables will be relocated to the east half, in front of the circulation desk, and new signage will be added to help you find your way.

Our goal is to provide logical flow in the stacks and ease of use, all in a comfortable, inviting space. Please don't hesitate to ask if you are unable to locate something during the transition.

New library hours

Our new library hours take effect on Monday, June 1. We will open at 9 a.m. each day, which is an hour earlier than the current opening. We have had so many positive comments about the new schedule. The staff is excited about being able to greet all of our customers earlier in the day! Visit our library web page for the complete schedule.

Let me give a plug for the All Iowa Reads book for 2009. I have just begun reading The Rope Walk by Carrie Brown. From Publishers Weekly: The Rope Walk sets themes of tolerance and understanding in a picture-postcard setting. In a Vermont town, where a description of the local library racks up a dozen adjectives (including "tall," "bracing," "rippling," "silvery" and "delicious"), children collect butterflies and recite "Hiawatha."

Speaking of delicious, this is a book to be savored. I have found myself becoming immersed again in the enthusiasm and wonder that is childhood.
